The No. 1 Secret to Finding Yourself

24 Jul

Hello, lovelies! Today I have a soul-stirring guest post from Leanna and Kevin over at The League of Champions. It’s all about being who you are . . . without waiting for some special thing first. Enjoy and show them some love when you’re done reading! 🙂

Do you ever feel like…

You have to engineer an irresistible persona to get people to like you?
You can’t unleash the real you until you’re done baking?
You’re a work in progress that will never be complete?
No one hears your voice in a deafeningly loud world?

People say, “Be yourself.”  But what is “yourself?”  Luckily, the solution can be found in one simple secret.

Many of us have this problem of finding ourselves.  You’re not abnormal, or broken, or on the wrong track if you feel this way.

We’ve all be told, one time or another, that we “should” be something that was different from what we wanted to be.  So then we start to think, “Well, maybe I’m wrong, maybe I should be something different…” and we question ourselves so much, we forget what we really were in the first place.  Or maybe we were told, “That’s just the way things are,” by someone who hadn’t bothered to find out if things could be other ways, too.  So then we began to think we had to accept a reality that we didn’t want.

It’s because of all the moments you were told not to follow your gut, that your gut was wrong, that you now feel like the real you – who knows all the right answers – is eluding you.

All these moments can be undone, however.  You can get in touch with your true self simply, right now, no waiting.  The biggest secret to finding yourself is… to stop looking.

The real you is not someone who has to be stitched together from pieces of what you think you should be, or someone who’s still being shaped and formed, or that ultimate personality you‘ve come up with in your head.  Of course we continue to grow and change, so think of that as an expansion of the true you.  But the true you is already here.

To stop looking means to stop putting on an act.  Sometimes we act a certain way because we’re around certain people.  Or, even when we’re alone, our choices reflect what we think the outside world will accept.   Doing this is like putting on a mask we think everyone else will like.  To take off the mask, just stop editing yourself.  The true you is already here.  It has always been underneath the mask, because it’s how you’d naturally act if you weren’t pretending. Soul Visionary? Say What?

15 Jun

When I look at the soul, my line of vision splits in two: I see it as it is, and as it could be.

Are you weighted down? You can be lifted up.

Are you wilting? You can bloom.

Are you cowering in fear? You can stand tall, bold and unashamed.

Are you searching? You can discover what you seek.

Are you thirsting? You can be fully satisfied.

What I do as a soul visionary is to visualise what we’re capable of when we let ourselves go. What’s holding you back?

Why are you holding you back? Continue reading

Voice Your Soul

24 May

“Lovely lady, I’m sitting on the bus having gone wow at the beauty, insight & courage of your writing!! The world needs to read this . . .”

My new friend and soul sister Marie Milligan said that to me on Twitter after she visited my blog for the first time and read The Bonds Between You and I. She later asked me how I write the way I do and if my English degree had anything to do with it. University certainly polished my skills but I’d like to think the raw talent was there all along, ha ha. 😀

So she made a special request for a post on How to Write From the Soul. The idea is to encourage those who feel they have something to say but don’t know how to say it, or if they’re even ready to say it. At the risk of claiming to know the answer to instantly fabulous writing, I’ll do my best to make this less about me and more about you. So, here goes.

I believe we all have a story waiting to be told. A truth, a yearning, something we must express to feel free, to feel true, to feel real. We long to be seen and heard, but we worry that our story isn’t interesting or witty or juicy enough. So we shut it in. We shut our voice in. And our spirits wilt with every passing moment. Know. Savour. Embrace.

26 Apr

“I don’t know what to do.”

You do. You do know what to do. You’ve always known.

You know that you need to live true to yourself. You know that you need to work towards your desire, not against it. You know that you need to feel alive by doing the things that are sacred and important to you.

You know. You know.

Your soul is nudging you right now, isn’t it? Whispering in your ear and urging you to leap. Leap. Piping up and saying “She’s right, you know. Let’s go for it. Let’s!”

Let it move you. Let it speak. Let it grow. Let your soul guide you. Continue reading

Bright, Beautiful Star

4 Apr

Your energy and vitality

Turn them up, bring them out

Light your fire and burn crazy bright

Let your flames singe you and dare you and lift you

To do more, more, MORE!

More than you ever imagined or dreamed or hoped for

Glowing with your truth and flowing with your intuition

With your spirit wild and free

And your mind light and open.

Come, come, come into this magical place

Your love and passion and mercy and grace

Are waiting to fill you up, fill you all the way to overflowing

Stretching, leaping, blooming and growing.

Let yourself go; let yourself feel

The power in you that is real

Take your place in the cosmos and rise

You bright, beautiful star with luminous eyes.

How Would It Feel to . . . Stretch?

30 Mar

Beyond all boundaries. Right up to the edge and over.

Beyond the self-sabotage and deprecation. “Oh, I can’t! I’m just not good enough”? Gone. Vanquished. Wiped out.

Beyond the critics and naysayers. The founts of doubt and pessimism. Block them out. Tune into your kick-ass frequency and take the world by storm, dammit!

Beyond the trepidation. The fear. The “What if I fall?” and “It would SUCK to fail.” Brace up. Believe. Your future’s calling and urging you to unfurl those wings. Pack light.

Beyond the pain. The depression. The heartbreak. The past. It happened to you. Why let it define you as well?

Beyond the dilly-dallying and second guessing. Do it or screw it. Either way, DO something.

Beyond questioning your ability, right, or sheer balls to do so. The short answer is yes. The long answer is you have a gift to share with us all.

Beyond the disappointments and setbacks. Caving in weakens the spirit. Pushing forward strengthens it. Get yourself a cheer-leading posse to point out the rainbows when you can’t see the sky for your tears.

Beyond burnout and exhaustion. Running dry is part of the human condition; ignore the signs at your own peril. Build a self-care practice to meet your needs and refresh your spirit.

Beyond narrow mindsets and blinkered vision. Life is organic. Let your spirit soar wild and free. Fact: Innovation does not favour closed minds.

Beyond hushing your truth and hiding your enthusiasms. Boldness leaves an indelible mark on history. Every time.

Beyond believing it’s all right for others to shine but there ain’t enough space for them and you. Hogwash. We are all bright stars. The cosmos form our playground. Light is our heritage. Word.

How would it feel to stretch beyond every challenge and reach the rare jewel on the other side?

I’ll tell you how it would feel. Fan-freakin’-tastic. 🙂

Thank you for reading; it means a lot to have you here. Please feel free to share this post with your networks. Come say hi on Facebook or find me on Twitter! I’m always looking to connect. Ciao, lovelies.

The Power of Authentic Expression

3 Mar

It’s real. Honest. Raw. Exhilarating.

Authentic expression is the outflow of your core and the mindspace of your creativity.

It’s what happens when you immerse yourself in your truth and live faithful to the principles therein.

It’s when you’re bold enough to put yourself out there and really be who you are.

Some time ago, I posted a tweet that read “Be authentic; therein lies your own brand of originality. Being real is the new cool.” It made me reflect on the importance of knowing yourself and living your truth, being your own person and finding your voice.

So many times we find ourselves holding back from saying what we feel because we don’t know how the other person(s) will take it and we’re too timid or afraid to risk it.

Let me tell you a secret: you die a little more inside every time you shut yourself up.

Shooting down the voice of intuition is similar to depriving your soul of oxygen; sooner or later, something has to give. And guess what does? Your special brand of expression.

So. Make that pitch. Write that story. Paint that picture. Chase that dream. Nurture that passion. There’s nothing wrong with going after what you want and nothing right with talking yourself out of it.

There are few things more painful than waking up one day and realising you could have had it all but you let it slip through your fingers.

Authentic expression will enrich your life. It’ll give you a style all your own. You’ll be an original, not a copy; a rare specimen, not an ordinary drone; and the brightest facet of yourself, not the dimmed-down version.

But hey, don’t take my word for it. Try it out and see for yourself. 🙂

Did You Know?

12 Feb

You are exquisite. Precious. A timeless jewel of sparkling wit and elegance.

You are cherished. Loved. Held close to the heart and hugged tight every night.

You are beautiful. From the inside out. Beautiful soul with depth and meaning.

You are worthy. Of all you desire.

You are important. Needed. Wanted.

You are strong enough. Smart enough. Brave enough.

You are here to live life on your own terms, not anyone else’s.

You are here to live, and glow, and smile. 🙂

Rise

10 Feb

Rise.

With a war cry mighty in power and a fighting spirit fierce with resolve.

Willing to risk it all on one shot, one chance to vault into greatness and radical fulfilment.

Knowing that now is the perfect time, the only time, really, to bounce back and claim your heritage.

Standing tall like you’re supposed to, like you were made to, as you were born to.

Armed with courage to eclipse every obstacle and withstand every fear.

Brave with the fire of purpose and the strength of determination.

Ready to seize the incredible and nail the phenomenal.

Rise, rise, and let your spirit soar wild and free.

Man is so made that whenever anything fires his soul, impossibilities vanish.

Gouge the Surface

31 Jan

Much of everyday life takes place above the surface. We run errands, talk to people, buy things, drive from point A to B; just a few of the things we do on autopilot. You know, part of the rote and all that.

But what about the rest of the iceberg? What about the multitude of ideas and dreams and treasures below the surface? What about the light buried in the darkness because we can’t find the time to air out our coffers?

The surface is a seductive place. It is level, familiar, comfortable. We settle into an easy rhythm, power on day in and day out

until

something

jolts us.

What are you doing? Where are you going? Are you working by instinct or rote? Are you fuelled by passion or necessity? Who are you? Continue reading
